All true heads know a healthy Drum & Bass obsession (such as mine) means appreciating and enjoying all the different “flavas” this beautiful music has to offer.
I’ve been following Exiled Recordings since it’s inception, because sometimes all it takes is one Facebook conversation with someone you’ve never met in real life to know that they share your passion for the genre as much as you, and that was the case for me with Jerimie Jones, the founder of the label.
Versatility, that is, in my humble opinion, what makes a great producer. And in this regard, Nottingham based DJ/Producer Terraform does not disappoint. This release showcases his ability to innovate while preserving that sound that makes the OGs reminisce about the good old days.
The Shutdown EP takes off in style with its title track “Shut Down”, with a beefy bassline and an expertly crafted groove, this track will surely make dance floors rumble, the vocal chops drive the track forward while the subtle melody reminds you to just breathe.
On the follow-up, the track “Come Rudeboy” brings about that inner Junglist; a snappy beat, a cool little vocal sample, a catchy piano melody, some lush strings, and a deep wobbly bassline make this tune my personal favorite in the EP. I would drop this tune in the middle of a set to let that bassline unclench some jaws.
“Less is more” surely resonated with me listening to this EP, as I’ve always said, the purpose of good music is to make you FEEL something. These tunes made me feel quite nostalgic, while at the same time daydreaming about a warehouse rave.
