We welcome you again for another dose of fresh drum and bass! Today we share Azlan – Inverse/Xayide [Momentive Recordings]. Now serving up a couple crafty ones, Azlan brings his world of sound straight to you. And his precise yet funky style is a combination fused together with skill. He creates etherical grooves. And transcends conventional expressions while finding the funk within and sending it outwards. The depths of the tracks contrast with full bright atmospherics, vocal samples, and high range synths.

Inverse

Starting with the intro, pure atmospheric sounds that seem like voices stretched and shortened. This is combined with bright pads and intermittent pluck sound. The sound of feint percussive and impacts build tension into a short section. Next the drum pattern is added in a low-pass. Suddenly the bassline is heard by itself and builds up to the drop. And with a hint of white noise and snare. Everything is combined and introduces us to the vibe. Now accentuated by more atmospherics. An impact sound signals the break. So that creates a sense of almost weightlessness. A woman’s vocal and some dialogue can be heard while the high end synths soar high over throughout frequency range. Then kicks make way for the re-introduction of the bassline with the build up of the snare. Azlan furthers the vibe with simple yet effect changes in the funky bass and fills.

Xayide

Next, this track starts with a flute sounding melody. Now what sounds like percussion turns into a repetitive vocal sample the builds up with punchy kicks. Then just before the drop “Switch.” So, the dark and hefty bassline accompanies the crisp and clean drums. Now Azlan plays with changing the drum patterns with a half time section that rolls into the main part once again with more energy and rhythmic elements.
