CONRAD SUBS IS TAKING US PAST THE DEPTHS, AND GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE WITH THIS FORTH COMING EP!!
Lpswich resident Conrad Subs is about to unleash a 4 pack of dutty dutty badness upon us. In conjunction with the infamous label , Formation UK, we’ll receive a beastly EP on August 27th. Just in time for the massive to get blasted by bassbins at the few remaining festivals and dnb events that haven’t been post poned. Due to the ever lasting global pandemic.
‘Take it to the Depths’ comes cross with a quadruple hit of flavors and spices, properly seasoning the junglist massive. After over a decade of hurling big tune after big tune at us with reckless abandonment, on over 50 labels worldwide. Including releases on gargantuan houses like RAM, RAID, DUTTY AUDIO, DREAD, LIONDUB, JUNGLE CAKES, LIQUIDV , DEEP IN THE JUNGLE . Subs is lazer focused on pounding the ride with titanium wobbles, crispy drum work, subterraneous vocal performances, pitch black vibes, and prolific low end frequencies. The type of shit that could shake Stonehenge to un identifiable pile of rubble.
LET’S GET INTO THE JAMS!!!
Kicking off this EP is title cut ‘Take it to the Depths’ featuring Frasher . Straight out of the cypher, this track comes cross with a combo of techy neuro atmospheric and synth’s & dark and deep rollers. A minimalistic stepper style beat lays perfectly behind a wall subs and grimey dark bass lines. Frasher on the mic conversing with the raver massive, letting them know what the fuck is about to go down, and why they are going to enjoy every second of it. This tune will pound dance floors for years to come.
‘Bubbler’ enter’s the arena as the second cut. Right off the jump it reminds me of that old Doc Scott tune ‘Swarm’ off of Metalheadz platinum. But as soon as the subs drop into the mix, it shakes the cartilage in the knees. Rolling you into a full wobbler, deep roller, and slinky badboy riddim mode. Add some classic lasers, lick shots, sound clash vocals, and amen splashes. We get a dark funky number that will get all the gun fingers in the air and the put proper flex on any VOID system.
‘Mambo NO. 69 ‘ is cheeky. It breaks away from the theme of the entire release. Definitely lies in that realm of that overly happy jump up sound that seems to be getting play from the massive that wishes to keep things a little light and fruity out there. Something about this song feels like the EP just needed a fourth tune to be a completed EP, and this one just happened to be a finished. The piece over all feels as light hearted and whimsical as the name itself.
The last bit definitely comes from the depth. ‘Subterranean’ , meaning the place under the underground, lives up to the challenge. Up tempo percussion elements drive the anxiousness of the beat. With tearing basslines right up front ripping speaker cones. Replicating that BennyL foghorn style minimal dnb banger. It comes to you with these soft enchanting synth lines, and then by the end you are absolutely gutted by how down right nasty and grimey this one gets.
So D_E_B_T…. HOW’D THIS GRAB YA?
I liked this EP. It was technically another perfectly executed production that I expect from Conrad Subs. His production techniques have always been top notch in the arrangement, composition, and mixing departments. The art work fits in with the theme of what Formation has been presenting lately. But, I didn’t feel represented the overall sound of the album. Just by looking at the cover I was expecting something light and “junglistic” , and it was quite the opposite.
Three of the four selections really stuck out to me as being tunes I would definitely blast, or enjoy hearing out on the dance floor. Which is super dope to get an EP with more than one slapper and a bunch of filler. This EP has very strong moments. Allowing us to see another side of darker productions from Conrad Subs. Engaging us to continue on anticipating more material from him. Because who knows what the next ride he’ll enchant us to get inside will be like.
THIS RELEASES WORLDWIDE ON AUGUST 27TH. HERE’S WHERE TO GRAB IT, AND TO KEEP UP WITH SUBS AND FORMATION
