We’ve been talking about ESKR quite a bit on Best Drum and Bass this year and its attention well earned as this US based drum and bass producer is pumping out tracks with the style and flow, filling our crates with impressive compositions and thick sounds. One quarter of the group Noize Komplaint they released “First Rule” featuring MC Foxy and “Everybody Jump” on Boomslang Recordings earlier this year; high energy in your face drum and bass. Following that up was the ‘Split-Brain EP’ on Patrol the Skies Music, an insanely technical pack of tracks overflowing with intricate beats and big basslines. His single “Data Storm” caught big attention on the ‘Slither EP Volume 1’ with a wobble that makes the floor bounce with relentless fury. ESKR is keeping the momentum moving, this time on Histeria Records, with a double dose of dangerous vibes on “Dance Tonight” and “Hold On Me” showing his production is limitless in technique and design.
A funky beat brings “Dance Tonight” to life entangled with elegant atmospherics that entice the highs. The build increases as the composition carries on, a breath before the drop as a sultry vocal suggests ‘let’s dance tonight’. Tumbling into the drop heavy basslines pound, buzzing and blasting through the composition alongside electrifying effects and a strong snare that keeps the rhythm rocking in a solid groove to get the dance floor moving. The vocal effects echo and pop as the composition tumbles along with enough fury to blast the floor to bits between that burly, dubby bassline and the overall dark moody groove.
The highs hold the build in “Hold On Me” as upbeat rhythms ride between vocal cuts sprinkled within. Steady snares hold the vibe as the wobble rises to life in pursuit of the drop. Exhilarating basslines create a rhythm of their own riding in tandem with the burly beats and fierce fills. The high end holds the intensity playfully binding the measures as the vocal sample stagers in to keep the mood steady. With a bassline built to blast the bins the floor is sure to shake and bend as “Hold On Me” rides on. This one is lots of fun to mix and blend there’s great contrast in the mix and Lion’s Den has mastered these two tracks perfectly.
