While quickly rising up the Beatport Drum & Bass Top 100 Tracks chart to #3 after it’s 12/14 debut, the new single by InsideInfo titled “Lost It” recently dropped for the first time on his own label, InsideInfo Music. The original-and-hefty five-minute mix marks a simplistic-yet-devious approach to Euro D&B, and a fitting entrance for the producer’s newly created label, after already being featured on labels like Drum&BassArena, Viper Recordings, Major League DnB, and RAM Records (to name a few).
“Lost It” begins with an anxious ticking noise, only to give way to gentle, ambient sounds fading in before building up to a blaring synth silencing everything around it. The smaller, organic sounds expose a darker synth around the one-minute-ten-second mark, while inaudible whispers slowly give the listener chills. Behind the darker synth, the constant backbeat riff repeats in traditional patterns, but eventually begins to get higher and rougher as the constant ticking re-enters the scene; or did it ever leave? This new single abandons some of the darker, more traditional D&B production styles for a minimalist journey marked by certain synth transformations and surprises you have to listen for.
“Lost It” plays surprisingly like the Hors d’oeuvre good enough to be the main meal: a complicated, fast-paced, and calming entry into the Drum & Bass mythos with plenty of strange, sampled ambient noises fading in and out to keep the listener at full capacity. This new single from InsideInfo gives enough mystery to chew on, but as soon as you put on a pair of sweet headphones, the magic is still there — but the mystery deconstructed.
