Insideinfo & Mefjus – Footpath (ft. The Upbeats) [Virus Recordings]

0

Holy Monday.  Noisia released a Colossal EP, Mob Tactics dropped an A side B side single, and finally Insideinfo & Mefjus put out another classic.  Being released under the prestigious Virus imprint, it was clear to me that this was going to be another hit from the two.  I might even dare say I enjoy this single more than the infamous 2013 track the two put out titled “Mythos”.  Bold, I know, but I think The Upbeats feature really did it for me here.  Regardless, the super-collaboration is back in full swing with a twist and I think the entire drum and bass community couldn’t be happier.  “Footpath” starts off relatively calm with a simple arpeggio, some sound effects, and an old-school synth making some psychedelic swells. It quickly develops, adding sci-fi vocal samples and some hints of the bass patches and nightmare to come.  These hints quickly build up and eventually lead into the drop.  The bulk of the song is maintained by deep Upbeats-sounding growls, gnarly synths that sound like a dog mid-kill, and a shrieking high-end layered over the entire drop that gives the song an apocalyptic sound.  Spor would be proud.  The song has every element I look for in drum and bass: a clean mixdown, dark atmosphere, and terrifying sound design.  I love this release, the releases previously mentioned, and finally that Mefjus & Insideinfo are collaborating again.  Go check Beatport ASAP!

I give the song a 9/10 and would love to see more drum and bass like this every week.
