I like break beats a lot. One sure fire way for you to catch my attention is with a mighty fine crafted break beat. Add in some droning bass siting underneath, some high passed pads, and dubbed out FX and I will just hand over my money to you. Lucky for me, the new single on Broken Audio has all those boxes ticked.
The recent release from Kaset, “Erosion” is a tune I would like to see more like in drum and bass. Tough as nails breaks, proper fills, fitting back up percussion, and straight forward bass. I am not mad at the synth pads that remind me of the Twin Peaks soundtrack either. I appreciate that there is a no nonsense, straight forward approach to this song. It just works its self out in just under six minutes, and nothing is out of place or filler. This to me is honest, straight forward drum and bass with out a lot of the pre-tense that seems to be surrounding a lot of music. I know it may sound elementary, but all you really need is the drums and the bass and you are good to go. This tune is a perfect illustration of that!
