Kung – Self-Fight/Poise – Dirtbox Recordings

Yo what’s happening DnB fans!  Strex here with another interview to coincide a wicked release, this time on Dirtbox Recordings!  

This release is from Spanish producer, Kung who has been around in the scene for a while now and I got the chance to ask him a few questions about his new release.

It’s a great release, both tracks are wicked and I really enjoyed listening to them so let’s jump into the questions.

1. Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself! 

I’m Juanjo, I’m a Spanish guy, who been in the dnb scene for a while now, released tunes in labels like RAM , critical and Eatbrain to name a few.. played in many European countries over the years and also I lived in London UK for ten years but now got back to Spain for good! 

2. What got you into D&B?

The energy! I’m from Andalucia is a place that got highly influenced by breakbeat during late 90’s early ‘00 so it got me quite young hooked to electronic music and broken beats, i was already making music by then when, bit later was that Noisia – Monster EP what it actually really got me to think, “this is wanna make from now on” and yeah here I still am lol

3. Ah man, I love the Monster EP, loved that era of Noisia!  How long have you been into the scene? Have you tried any other genres before? 

I’d say since 2005-2006 not totally sure but i didn’t start playing out till 2008 or so.

And yeah made some Dubstep back in the day, funny enough my first ever vinyl release was Dubstep. Can Fly EP on Limedubs if someone is curious about it  Click Here!

4. Wicked, sounds like we got into the scene around a similar time!  How long did it take you to produce this wicked release for Dirtbox? 

I’d say about 3/4 weeks of work each tune, i normally really commit to finish what i start but yeah I’m not the fastest person to finish tunes I really care about too many details and I know it might not worth it but I take pride of what i make music wise.

5. Who are your main inspirations? 

Noisia , obviously as i said before they’re pretty much the reason why I make music so yeah. Also always been a massive fan of Ye but this is not something we wanna talk at the moment lol

6. This is one of my favourite questions to ask, but who were you most proud to receive feedback on the promo from?

Not gonna lie I don’t normally check much of that feedback, but also Noisia lol, Camo and Krooked and Mefjus are massive right now so yeah I’d say these 3 names

7. What have you got in the pipeline for 2025?

Been working really hard the last two years developing my own label which I’m making everything from music to graphics and arts, I always really wanted to get my music out there in my own vision, the way it sounds and looks, so yeah hope to get all done soonish, super excited about it ngl.

8. That sounds really cool man!  Look forward to hearing it!  Lastly, where can we see you perform this year? 

Not much planned so far, I’m on DNBTV agency so probably there will be some gigs but the truths is I’ve committed more on the production and graphic design side to make the project I talked about previously, once is done I’d be way more active on DJing and playing (hopefully) wicked questions mate!
