Label Spotlight – ONSET AUDIO

by | Aug 10, 2018 | Interview, Spotlight

I think its an important part in any music scene to take a moment to recognize the people behind the scenes;  the labels, agents, promoters and blog writers. ONSET AUDIO is a drum and bass label out of Seattle that focuses on the deep and dark side of drum and bass. It is owned and operated by Seth Grym. They have releases from artists such as , Homemade Weapons, Bereneces and Dioptrics. I had a chance to catch up with Seth to chat a bit more about his label.

Chelsea: What is one tip you would like to give to aspiring Drum and Bass artists who are trying to get on a label?

Seth: Know the style of the label you are submitting to. If you make tech bangers do not submit to a label that puts out mostly liquid and vice versa. Also, send a message and introduce yourself instead of just sending a Soundcloud link.

Chelsea: Can you tell us what is coming up next for ONSET AUDIO?.

Seth: As always we have an arsenal of amazing deep jungle, halftime and experimental bass music from our regular guys out in Eastern Europe. In addition we’ve got several exciting new projects on deck from some established names in US DNB and maybe a bonafide legend or two.

Chelsea: What was your inspiration behind your name?

Seth: Onset Audio grew out of our successful Drum and Bass weekly, Onset, that ran 15 years in downtown Seattle. The name was conceived at a time when Drum and Bass was having a major surge in the Seattle scene- we thought it was a fitting name, the beginning of a movement.

Chelsea: Can you tell us a little bit about why you chose to start a label?

Seth: Running the weekly put us in contact with a lot of established and up and coming producers, all with a surplus of material at their disposal. In the early days of digital labels it just made sense to create an outlet.

I think its always great to get some insight from people who are on the business side of music. Please follow Onset Audio on Facebook or Soundcloud, I also have it on good authority that if you are a drum and bass producer that does deep, experimental drum and bass, halftime, or footwork, they want to hear from you!
