It is fishing season over here at Best Drum and Bass and we are on a mission for the hottest of new music in the full spectrum realm of Drum and Bass. This week we have a handful of incredibly banging tunes making there waves in the field right now. Let’s skip the blurb and dive head first into this ocean of sound.
#1. Phonetick & ParaDigitz & Mean Teeth – Let Em Know [BADTASTE]
A triple threat of production force efforts who are really heard in this display of creativity lay down a sci fi fueled stepper to send you into a different dimension. Let em Know starts its wave with building otherworldy atmospherics backed quickly with growing percussion. The build slams into a spaced out stepping vibe with refined patches of reese and solid drums that shine through the mix, various cheeky sample fills can be heard throughout the duration of the main phrase keeping the tune fresh! This ones out on the second of March.
Koven & Memtrix have come together to bring an incredible moody and vibey tune to the world. Viper’s own Insomniax is on remix duty with this one keeping the theme on lock. Koven are winding up for their latest LP launch which is shaping up quite nicely in addition to this hefty contribution to the album. The insomniax remix of Pessimist features an incredibly effective open rolling style complimenting the vocals and not so pessimistic.
#3. Klinical feat. Haribo – Generations [Lifestyle Music UK]
Switching the vibe up a bit one of my favorite labels at the moment bringing some minimal and techy business brings it straight to the table with Klinical’s latest release. Lifestyle have been crushing it this past year with a massive roster of incredibly talented producers curating their own signature sound as a label. This time around is no different with Klinical’s “Africa” EP which features 3 Techy and Minimal tunes perfect for DJ tools. My favorite cut off the EP is Generations which really has some great percussive elements and atmosphere. This ones out now on Lifestyle.
#4. State of Mind – Writhe [Blackout NL]
The legends of neurofunk SOM are back on blackout after a brief break with an stellar heater of a tune! State of Mind has been crushing it for over a decade now and continue to have their foot firmly planted on the gas pedal in terms of energy. Writhe features some heavy hitting synths paired with rock solid percussion and otherwordly chopped up vocals. SOM have some big things in the works so keep your ears listening for the latest to come!
#5 Noel – BOWWOW [PROGRAM]
One of my favorite creative within the scene is back on a label that is always stepping up the bar for contemporary drum and bass music, ProgRAM. Ram’s little sister label responsible for bringing some of the most forward thinking and interesting D&B to the world. Hailing from Russia Noel’s no newcomer to the future forward thinking category with a release roster studded in interesting music throughout the years he continues his sound with a excellent three part release. My favorite track off the EP is “BOWWOW” which keeps it rough yet manages to maintain a high level of cleanliness in the mix. A great DJ tool!
