This week, I’d like to give you insight into what I’ve been listening to recently and what type of DNB resonates with me these days. It might be something you haven’t come across yet, and it could be a bit of you as well. I find myself most Friday mornings browsing Beatport trying to be the firts one to find the latest heat in our cherished scene. Hence some of the tracks I am mentioning are not out on all platforms, but exclusive to purchase on there. As a DJ and producer I constantly seek inspiration and new weapons for my sets, I collected some music that I appreciated the most lately, both professionally and casually, I hope they bring you as much joy as to me!

hayve – Flow (VIP) [Monstercat]

The Finnish-Israeli producer duo, hayve debuted in 2019 and have been consistent with their versatility across genres and top-notch production skills. Their releases include not just different types of DNB, like Neurofunk or Jump up, but Tearout, Riddim and other styles too, making them a perfect fit for Monstercat, the label they are signed with. Back in April 2023, they released a single, titled “Flow” (that was when I found out about them), which quickly became a “must play” in my DJ sets. This year though, they blessed us a VIP (variation in production) version of the track, released on the 11th of October. This edit is a perfect first track for a DJ set, as until the drop, it keeps tricking us, enhancing the energy and tension with the halftime intro leading us into a classic build up to a fake drop, then into a superheavy neuro insanity. “Flow VIP” is available on all platforms, go check it out!

QO – Dirty Dirty Funk – [Hoofbeats]

Qo is back again on Hoofbeats, to give us a lesson about what Neurofunk really supposed to be and I am all for it! “Dirty Dirty Funk“, according to Hoofbeats, is “just an introduction of what’s yet to come”, meaning, we must brace ourselves, even heavier tunes are on the way, but let’s stick to the present for now. This track caught my attention with the title already, that is absolutely insightful, it is a funky, dorky Neurofunk tune, which is essentially all we want, isn’t it? Apart from dirty, groovy basslines, we get a narrator guiding us through this journey, preparing us to what to expect or rather what is the tune all about. This one is an absolute banger, as usual from the Czech producer. Check it, Check it, Check it!

Raido – Take a Hit – [NEUROSPORT Records]

Neurosport, a Neurofunk label based in Austria that nurtures up-and-coming artists like Cranium, PRDK or Confusion is a label worth keeping an eye on whether you’re a DJ looking for tunes to play in your sets, or you simply love torturing your eardrums blasting killer Neuro all day long. A couple days ago, I was just browsing through their catalogue, when I realised, the name was Raido keeps coming up, so I had a listen to one of his tunes. Then another. And another. The next minute I found myself saving all his tunes both on SoundCloud and Spotify, he got me hooked to his sound instantly. His production style reminds me of Prolix or Audio, all his tunes are definitely exploding any dance floor. His next project, “Dystopia EP” will be out on Darkshire Sound, which is something to look forward to. Until then, here is my favourite from him, “Take a Hit“.

Neuropunks LP 2 – [Neuropunk]

Forthcoming on the Russian Neuropunk, known for their huge armada of top tier producers like Gydra, Mizo, Ozma or 2Whales just to name a few, we are being gifted a sequel to the VA collaboration album last year. Neuropunks 2 to me, is more of an old school type Neuro album, highlighting the funky elements, the dirty “old” sound of the 2000s’ or early 2010’s, rolling drum breaks supported by less prominent basses or leads but the combination of these elements result us in a refreshing, exciting collection of tunes. The LP is already out on Beatport, – where by the way you can catch a cheeky sneak peek –  and will be available worldwide in two weeks from release date, so we only have to wait until the 25th of October to finally stream them!
