Myth – Returning Champion [Lockdown Recordings]

It’s a new year and a new decade so why not start it off with some fierce DnB? Luckily, Myth (one half of legends Ill Truth) has recently crafted two tunes for Lockdown Recordings that will get your blood boiling and overwhelm your senses like only his mix of jungle breaks and sub bass can. Returning Champion features two collabs, one with Militant and the other with Trex, and truly showcases the magic these producers work in the studio.

“Returning Champion” has the perfect name to launch the year, and effortlessly fuses classic jungle breaks and samples with modern production wizardry. The in-your-face clack of the snare, monstrous rumble of the bass vibrations, and hypnotic placement of the vocal line coalesce into a track that refuses to take any prisoners. The ambient sounds of the synth ebb and flow, further adding a surging vibe the track employs; one that makes it such a pleasure to listen to over and over again. Myth and Militant truly prove they are a force to be reckoned with on this one.

Following next is the tune with Trex called “Ease Up”– a serious dancefloor smasher. With an ethereal melody, an exacting drum building-up, and delayed out vocals, it’s the perfect prep work for the bass drop that hits like a sledgehammer. Fine tuned cymbal work soon enters – and with all the elements in place, it reveals the earth-shattering menace that it is. Yet despite this, there are moments it lets up to provide a sense of serenity before diving straight back into its dense jungle of sound. Trex and Myth demonstrate the potent force they are, and we can only hope to see more collabs between these two.
