Nectax – Clock Out/Stateless [Overview Music]

Newcastle native Nectax makes his debut on Overview Music with his first single on the label: Clock Out/ Stateless. With this tightknit single, Nectax shows off his skills as a producer and his ability as composer blending styles.

Clock Out is an interesting track as it combines two of drum and bass’s favorite past times as of late: good ole deep neuro and rollers. Starting with an intro full of menacing bass and atmosphere, this track gets nice and dirty quickly. With a powerful bass patch that could rival the loudest of horns, it’s mixed perfectly with modulation that keeps the track shifting but heavy all the way through.

However, the B-side Stateless is personally my favorite as it blends vibes rather than genres. Starting with some melodic synth work, one might think that this is the prelude to a dancefloor tune. As it builds, adding sub-bass and expanding on the leading hook, it quickly drops away before launching off into space. The leading hook continues while a menacing droning bassline rolls underneath. What you get then is a beautiful melodic tune that continues to evolve with a heavy and dark sound to carry it all the way through.
