Nothing excites me quite like discovering a quality release by an artist with whom I’m unfamiliar, only to find their entire back catalogue is of an equally high standard, much to the exasperation of my bank account.
Such was the case when I stumbled across Phaeny. The Hungarian producer is certainly no stranger to the scene, with regular releases over the last 12 months across a range of noteworthy labels including Liquid Brilliants, Touch Tone and Funkstuff Recordings.
This latest release finds him dropping a stunning pair of tracks on Fokuz Recordings sub-label, Celsius. 1997 is an incredible piece of work, all manic junglist breaks, rolling basslines and ethereal flutes. On the flip, Elysian Fields is a calmer number, sounding like Cyantific and Nu:Tone had a tiny, trumpet infused baby together.
Catch this outstanding release as a Beatport exclusive, or catch it Monday on all other digital stores. Then, if you’re like me, you’ll want to pick up everything else he’s ever released. I can hear my wallet groaning in protest already.
