Pulling a complete 180 degree turn this week–I review something from Monstercat! Truth be told I enjoy liquid drum and bass just as much as I enjoy the aggressive neuro side of the genre, I just have a harder time filtering the good from the bad. When I finally do stumble across something with top notch production, catchy samples, and an infectious chord progression–I consider it a gem–and Priority One & Two Thirds’ “Hunted” has all the qualifications. Starting off with the fantastic vocals of Jonny Rose, the track works its way into a breakdown very reminiscent to Deadmau5’s 2008 single “Ghosts N Stuff”, chopped vocals then emerge over pulsating trance chords as the track carefully builds to its climax. Flashy chords and talking basslines dictate the ultra-funky direction the song takes post-drop, with chopped Jonny Rose vocals placed delicately on top; the track rides a perfect line between complexity and addictive simplicity. Overall this song should satisfy just about every listener, from long-time drum and bass heads all the way to the modernized EDC/Ultra populace.
I give the track a 9/10 and will be following Priority One & Two Thirds very closely after this release.
