One of the things I love about music is when someone relatively new to you comes around and makes some music that just captures your full attention and maybe even catches you off guard a bit. When you listen with no pretense or expectations and then the music fills the speakers and you have one of those “Oh yeah” moments. That is exactly what happened when the promo for the new Rob Sparx’s ep hit my in box. The first track on the ep, Archon, caught my attention immediately. It is cinematic in scope and starts off with beautiful and lush pads and haunting strings that lead up to a bass heavy workout with grinding drums and percussions. Subtle keys and distorted vocals give it extra layers of sounds and texture and keeps the song fresh and gives it a little more dimension between the elements. The rest of the ep is chock full of jungle breaks and moods and should not be missed by anyone who is a lover of finely crafted break beats.
