Q and A with S.P.Y November Residency XOYO

Now lets hear a word from the man himself below!

Q: How does it feel to be added to the list of top artists residency at XOYO?

A: It’s an honor. So many huge names have done the residency at XOYO. It was amazing to hear that I’d been selected to have a residency of my own. Growing up in Brazil I used to listen to my favorite drum and bass tracks on vinyl. And had so much admiration for the scene in the UK. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself that I’m a part of it. XOYO is such a legendary club. And has played such an important role in the underground and electronic music scene. So now I’m really looking forward to the residency.

Q: How long have you been anticipating the residency?

A: It’s something I never really expected to be honest! It was a really nice surprise to be invited to have a residency at XOYO. Since then I have been busy getting everything organized. From curating the lineup, to writing new music and finalizing some exclusive dubs to showcase over the four weeks. Now that the date of the residency is getting closer it’s starting to get really exciting. The anticipation is definitely building now and I’m really looking forward to sharing everything I’ve been working on.

Q: Did you get to pick the other artists joining you for the four weeks?

A: I did! I was given totally free rein to select each lineup for the residency and I have to say it was a difficult task! There are so many great producers around at the moment. And artists that I have admired their work for years. Then when it came to the final decision I knew I’d chosen the right lineup. So they were exactly who I wanted to play. Everyone on the lineup is someone that I really respect and really rate to as a producer and a DJ. Each of the four nights will have a different vibe and my sets will all be unique to reflect this. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Q: How’s the DARKMTTR label going? Are there any new releases upcoming?

A: DARKMTTR is going well! Starting my own label is something I’d been thinking about for a few years so it was great to finally take the leap and do it. Although nothing quite prepares you for the reality of running a label. The best thing about starting DARKMTTR has been the ability to release and support music that I love. When I hear a track that I really like, it’s a great feeling knowing that I can release it on my label and share it with the world. I’ve been working with some really talented up and coming artists who are amazing producers so it’s great helping them to get their music out there. We have a few more releases upcoming this year, so stay tuned.

Q: Who would you like to see on the next residency?

A: This is a tricky one. I’d have to say LTJ Bukem. I really respect him as an artist and have taken a lot of inspiration from him over the years. He has such a unique sound. And is uncompromising in his DJ sets. His love for the music is incredible. It would be great to see him curate a residency.
