Saturday Spotlight: PROGRAM Records

by | Apr 18, 2015 | Tunes

This weeks Saturday Spotlight shines the beam of bass illumination on one of my favourite labels in the scene, PROGRAM.

Birthed in the latter half of 2012 as an exciting new string in the bow of the mighty Ram Records arsenal of sub-labels, PROGRAM has gone from strength to strength over the years, hitting the ground running with a solid debut release from Frankee, and seeing an array of top notch artists grace its release schedule.

What you’ll find when you peruse the PROGRAM back catalogue, is a consistently high level of production, often tinged with jungle and/or dub influences. No track sums this sound up quite like the sen-bloody-sational Chroma – 201 Dub and its flipside, Sovereign. There’s darker, more aggressive stuff here too though, with the likes of Stealth & Dirty Hertz – Revival, taken from Stealth’s cracking EP, and an equally strong EP from Russian mentalists Teddy Killerz.

There are calmer, mellow, more introspective moments too. EastColors – Creeper, or Legion & Logam’s very decent Solace.

On top of all this, there are more minimal, cerebral cuts, the likes of which wouldn’t sound out of place on Exit Records or Critical Music. That’s one of the key aspects of PROGRAM: diversity. You never know exactly what you’ll be getting with each release, except that it’ll probably be very, very good.

Go grab the PROGRAM catalogue direct from the Ram Record store.
