A Sides has been a leading in voice in underground Drum and Bass for 25 years now, and has been celebrating this milestone this year with a string of EP’s with a project called QUART. The fifth installment of this series was released earlier this month and it features all remixes. For this part of the project, A-Sides has enlisted some of the best re-mixers and top producers around. With names such as Serum, Spirit, Break, Cool Hand Flex, and Voltage you know there is some serious heat on each of these tracks. Each one has the perfect balance of A-Sides deep and rich production with the signature sounds and moods of their re-mixer.
The one that stands out for me, and that has been smashing dance floors and podcasts alike, is Breaks remix of “This Is Your Time” that features the vocal stylings of Vanessa Freeman. Break being Break, he brings precise and clean production that features laser sharp layers of music that sit perfectly within each other all while complimenting the original vocals. It kicks off with a smoother, deep vibe with vocals, warm pads, and an almost summertime vibe. That soon gives way to the main drop that sets it off. Rugged and smashing breaks and hats that energize every set and audience it is dropped in. This one as well as the other remixes on this release are top shelf drum and bass and make a perfect addition to every drum and bass fans collection.
