When a producer from around my way unleashes some fire tunes you know I’ve got to show some love. Don’t get it twisted, SST has been around in the scene for the past two decades putting out both solo work and several collaborations. His latest release to see the light of day pairs two fresh tunes featuring somewhat contrasting styles. Get ready for a journey into the cosmos and back with “Losing The Game”, backed with “Fractured System”, out now on Patrol The Skies Music.

About the tunes…

Creepy ambiance opens the lead track “Losing The Game”, giving an ethereal feeling that something is lurking in the shadows. Crisp percussion rhythms start to take shape while leaving plenty of room for the rest of the tune to evolve.

A pleasant surprise awaits as a voice appears to lead the way forward on the adventure. There’s definitely a vibe building here, not completely foretelling of what’s about to drop. We’re soon catapulted head first into a well crafted drum break surrounded by a cinematic soundscape of carefully syncopated synths and growls. Make no mistake, SST isn’t playing any games as the tune continues to advance into orbit. The second breakdown reveals the vastness of space before snapping back to reality. This was all just a dream, right?

Reinforcing this excursion is the more upfront stepper “Fractured System”. It begins subtly but with intent, the drums wasting little time establishing the pace of this tune. Equal parts sci-fi thriller and tech spy movie, this track is what dance floor pressure is all about. Cavernous waves of sound echo throughout, creating a mood that’s a perfect backdrop for occasional vocal lines that accompany the voyage. The well-timed directives manage to provide a sense of both mystery and reassurance that you’ve chosen the right path. If you love dark growling bass lines and synth stabs, this is most definitely the track for you.

Without a doubt, this release checks all the boxes when it comes to solid tech step tunes that are certain to move bodies on the dance floor.
