There are certain times in your life when you realize all you really need is a perfectly chopped Amen break, pounding synth subs, and just the right amount of FX and atmospherics whirling around to make all well in the universe again. When Technical Itch released his Parallax EP sixteen years ago, anyone who remotely had interest in drum and bass sat up and paid attention. Its tracks were loaded with precision edits, relentless breaks, sub bass and gritty synth bass. They had power, authority, and they had gravitas. They sent a legion of new producers into studios and basements alike inspired to have a go and see what they could come up with.
Flash forward to 2008 and one of those results is the offering “Reign Supreme” from Stanjah and Grimm. Written as a tribute to “Stack 2” from Tech Itch, it made the rounds on the dubplate circuit among some of the heavy hitters but it never made it to a full release. That is until today. This beauty of a track is included in the Wolfman EP on Jungle Syndicate. If you love stripped down, but solid rugged amens, tech synth bass riding hard over solid sub bass, then this is a sure fit. Try to track down the full audio of this. The audio clip for the review is part of the breakdown and build up before the second drop, but trust, there is a wicked tune before this part of the preview that is absolutely sublime.
Smashing tune finally seeing a proper release.
