Hello drum and bass friends and family! Today I’m hyped to share an upcoming artist Subcat. With a new release set for the 16th. Hyenas EP on Stonx Music is ripping up the waves with this one. Hailing from London but originally from the South West, Ben Harman aka SubCat, cut his teeth on the Bristol and Bath scenes. He has long been a purveryor of the finest Neurofunk and the filthiest Tech Drum and Bass. From a life of near obsessive listening to an exhaustive list of artists. His inspiration spans from the grass roots of the scene like BCUK, Prolix, Noisia, Fierce and Gridlok. And to the current originators along the lines of Screamarts, Akov, TK, Stonx and Sindicate who are pushing the scene to new levels.
Humanity is not very far from a cold, biomechanical future right now. So let Subcat set the mood for you with the title track ‘Hyenas’. Horror pads and furious tom-rolls build momentum towards the drop.
Winding up the energy until the riff hits you like a concrete tsunami sponsored by gravity. The bass bounces around like a feral dog while the listener dislocates themselves to the rhythm. Once heard, this one won’t be forgotten, and we don’t say that in every release copy like most labels.
The ruthless B side Flow is still class A material. Starting with tense soundscapes and pads, the drop wonks at you straight away and wonks furiously. Furious arpeggios permeate the track to give it a driving, stampeding momentum.
Eyes on Subcat bringing you the best. Look out for advertising across the web as well as support on Stonxcast now a partner of Best Drum & Bass Podcast.
