The Teddy Killerz are finally back after their massive ‘Countdown’ remix compilation and I couldn’t be any happier. This new release debuted the 31st of July and is absolutely spectacular; the title track being my favorite Right out of the gate ‘Hyperspeed’ starts off with some seriously ominous horns, a deep voice, and one message: “This summer the Teddy Killerz will kill you, hyper-speed”. I can’t say I understand what it means to kill someone “hyper-speed”, but rest assured the Teddy Killerz give it a good shot with this track. After the cinematic message and horns end, ‘Hyperspeed’ picks up the pace with what you’ve come to expect from these soon-to-be drum and bass legends; the track blends in hi-hats, a repetitive synth line, and some horn stabs making up most of the intro. Eventually they sneak in some kind of incomprehensible voice that pitches upwards with the energy level and eventually climaxes when the song drops. The synths in this track remind me of Skrillex’s 2012 Birdy Nam Nam remix of ‘Goin’ In’ and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It’s the high-energy fun, ridiculous arrangement, chugging bass lines, and modern drum and bass sound that give this track its own unique flavor.
I give this track a 7/10 and encourage everyone to look through the other 3 tracks on this EP (another favorite of mine is ‘Quasar’).
