American drum and bass has come a long way in the last 15 years. The latest release from Hospital “The Future Sound of America” is an excellent representation of what america has been up to. The range of production on this album is unbelievable, from the melodic keys and vocals of Quadrant, Kid Hops and Iris featuring Shaprece on Get it Back , to the heavy ripping bass lines, and epic synths of “Getting High at Low Tide” from Evol Intent, this is an all around amazing compilation of artists and music.
The over all vibe of this album has Hospital written all over it, but with some twists! Some artists came with sounds we haven’t heard from them in long time, such as “Tomorrow Never Promised” from Gridlok & Jamal. This tune pretty much takes you on a journey though the artwork on the album cover, uplifting strings and a deep rolling bass lines carry this one through the peaks and valleys of this smooth dnb sound. This album also features some fairly new artists to the game with some heavy dance floor fire. Ownglow brings “Not Like Me” to the table on this compilation, and it is definitely one of my favorite tunes of the year. Using those old school rave sounds and choppy female vocals that are sure to catch any listeners ear, this one is sure to get the crowd poppin, or make your drive home from work a lot faster, maybe both?
I am really excited to see “The Future Sound of America” released from such a major label from the likes of Hospital Records. American dnb is making some big noise right now, and some of the people on this album are at the forefront of that realization. We are starting to see a real shift in how things are being made and heard, and a lot of those new sounds are coming right out of our back yards, so big up the world wide drum and bass massive and keep on pushing that dnb sound to new levels, we are ready!
