Despite the pandemonium occurring around the world, the world of Drum and Bass continues to carries on, with amazing music continuing coming out from labels all across the globe. With this week, the UK’s very own UPGRADE brings us with stomping music from RAM Records, the eclectic What It Means/Thunder single.
What It Means simply put is a cornucopia of style. Starting with spacey sounds broke with souring chords it builds into the workings of a true dance floor track. With soulful vocal and euphoric synths, the tracks lulls you into very feel good vibes, before pulling the rug from under you and dropping you into to pure roller filth. But, the track is more than just a heavy roller, with fast paced arpeggiated synths and razor sharp reese baselines rips. This track pulls together some of best qualities of drum and bass we have seen the past few years with wondrous results.
Thunder is just a full fledged nasty track. The kind of nasty track that makes scrunch up your face like you smelt something bad, but in the perfect way. This track takes no time to get to the business to thunderous success (no pun intended). With fast paced drums and the deep vocal work, this track has some dark and dirty vibes to it. The bass shifts and modulates fast with a bouncy feel to it, punctuated by vocals that add perfect spacing and make this a great track to step to.
UPGRADE pushes the envelope with this one and hits the mark right in the bull’s eye. With and A-side that is a cut above the rest of the rollers and B-side that is just pure madness, these two will make you long for the day that you will be able hear them on speakers at a show near you.
