Zero T – Divisions [Dispatch Recordings]

by | Mar 16, 2018 | Tunes

Aside from leading the charge on Beatport’s Drum & Bass Top 100 tracks with his new single, “Divisions,” Zero T doubled down with hard work to counter his critically-acclaimed 2015 album, “Golden Section.” In his newest full-length contribution to the Drum & Bass universe titled Little Pieces, Zero T incorporates an ethereally melodic production style which sets apart his body work from run-of-the-mill artists. From the sampler Zero T provided on his Soundcloud, tracks like “You Choose” featuring Villem and Stamina display a peculiar penchant for soulful vocals displayed before the eventual breakdown into tradition D+B. While Zero T may have an appreciation for the melancholy, lead singles like “Divisions” always reinforce Zero’s love for complicated percussion patterns and intense progressions.

Also upheld in this album is Zero T’s love for the obscure. “Divisions” includes an adventurous spoken monologue at the beginning of the track before the music even starts, which can be seen as a daring move for a lead single. Tracks like “Dying Breed” and “Trosmo” highlight the conflicting characteristics of Zero T’s dark musical intentions morphed with the upbeat, positive sensibilities of the final result. As a collective effort, Little Pieces manages to keep the style of the album cohesive while simultaneously creating a form of D+B “arias” with the inclusion of melodic sections. Zero T’s new album will be a delight for seasoned listeners looking for quality Drum and Bass spliced with Sci-Fi elements and newcomers who haven’t dipped their toes into the genre. Also keep on the lookout for an upcoming multi-genre extended EP from Zero T in collaboration with nu-jazz Unitsouled. According to a recent interview from In Reach, this 9-track EP will contain elements of “soul/jazz, crossing from DnB to Hip Hop to Neo Soul to Broken Beat.”
