This year has been a pretty huge year for the growth of the sub-genre, NEUROFUNK! Leading that charge is the  Russian label out of Saint Petersburg, Paperfunk Records. We can be honest with each other and admit. Neuro is a very polarizing genre. You love it, or you hate it. There isn’t much grey area for being decisive about how you feel when you hear it. Which is why it’s so fucking rad!

Paperfunk is not playing games with carving their own path in not only neurofunk , but the dnb genre itself. Proving that they are a force to recon with in the ever growing dnb movement within Russia . The label’s main goal is to flood cities and towns with the special mixtures containing nano-robots that supposed to get inside people’s brains and plunge them down in the deepest adolescent memories and show them the unrealized future.

Blinded Theory has been killing it with releases this year on Paparfunk, Stonx Music & High Resistance. This Russian young blood seems to be hurling tunes out into the realm of neuro. It seems like every other month I am coming across another series of bangers. Getting full support from many of the biggest names and labels in the genre. Is continuing to prompt him further up the ladder within a very futuristic and healthy genre.

Blinded Theory – Scape as the opener, it does some heavy lifting. It’s a perfect blend of heavily influenced sounds from neuro’s past. It reminds me of vibes from the infamous Malestrom EP on Renegade Hardware. But maintains strength as a futuristic club banger. Maintaining a healthy amount of groove and funk, but still visceral and dark.

Blinded Theory feat. NERV3 – Hollowed Ground is where we separate the light from dark. This track spills heavy influences from the foot stomping bangers by State of Mind & Prolix. The collaboration with NERV3 was most definitely heard. His style oozes all over this tune. Toss in a little 4x4here and to ramp up the energy. And BOOM, we’ve transitioned into the dark web. Where the only escape is to run towards the darkness.

Blinded Theory feat 9th Wave – Freedom  “freedom is a choice, and yet so may people choose not to be free” . Nothing has ever been so true in times like these. The reflection of the time is vehemently felt in the tone of this tune. It’s dystopian, dark and quite relentless. Sometimes we need to replace joy on the dancefloor with just a smidge of darkness. 9th wave comes into this one with the productive souls of Gridlock & Hive. And I’m fucking here for it.

Blinded Theory – Quintessence is the cinematic ender to this EP. It’s my personal favorite song on this release. Theory takes his time opening up the pit. But once he does, it’s all gas! We get a nuanced taste of Kemal and Stakka. But reborn into modern neuro that is pure beauty in the form of absolute filth. This fucker SLAPS!!

HOW DID WE FEEL ABOUT THIS?

I really dug this release as a whole. It moves from tune to tune with intent. All four songs could stand alone as single. But as an entire picture, it all makes sense and has a great movement. The future of Blinded Theory is looking good. I very much am looking forward to getting more hammers for my arsenal from him and especially from Paperfunk.
