BURR OAK – SOMEWHERE IT’S REBORN [ EATBRAIN ]

          BURR OAK & EATBRAIN GO IN ON US AGAIN…

It’s been a hell of a year for for the black sheep sub genre of dnb. Notoriously branded as neurofunk. The entire earth seems to diving head first into the “upside down”. While the dnb gods have been raining down a soundtrack to the apocalypse upon us. Week after week, drop after drop, sonic weapons of mass destruction have been good and plentiful.

Rounding out the back end of the year we are anointed with a LP of massive proportions from UK based label, Eatbrain Records. This record is a collection of remixes and VIP’s based off of the bone crushing work coming from the French duo. Known around the globe as Burr Oak

These two infamous producers have opened up their war chest to some of their closest friends. Allowing a melange of the “who’s who” in heavy dnb come cross with their own interpretations of 12 timeless Burr Oak releases. Drawing talisman from all corners of the earth. For a ferocious release hell bent on adding more kerosene. To an already scorched earth.

TWELVE HYMS CALL UPON THE NEURO GODS FOR AMENDMENT

We get a rather tasty variety of high octane bangers, stomping dark jumpers, cinematic halftime hammers & a deep roller to boot. Well over 20 sets hands touched this project. Putting forth what I expect to be one of the top releases of 2025 in dnb. The list of people around the knights table is not only prolific, but a living dream come to fruition. The likes of Broma , Ed Rush , Audio , Prolix, First Person, Eluun, Vici, Tesseracts, RedPill, Pythius, Black Sun Empire & Burr Oak. All put their spin on a dozen tunes, Whose original versions have already demolished dance floors and festival grounds worldwide.

Every song here takes does the lords work in the art of remixing. Each artist understood the assignment and let their unique sound and style shine on each song. Seemingly not getting inside of their own artistic vision too much, and allowing the impeccable sound design Burr Oak is known for. Still be ominously present. Yet going full flex on each song. Taking each piece of work to another level of power and confidence.

                               HOW DID THIS GRAB YOU?

Honestly, this maybe the best LP of the year. If not one of the best LP’s I have had the pleasure of coming across in the genre of neurofunk. In quite sometime. This is one of those releases that you can sit there and just listen to. Front to back, tune to tune, no skips, no scrolling, no clips. A complete piece of work that stands on its own as an album. Not a compilation or a collection of remixes. This album not only has flow from track to track. But has a cohesive tonality in the mixing and mastering of each tune that maintains quality and structure from track to track as well.

This is one of those releases that will be featured in sets , mixes & playlists for years to come. It will be everywhere, all of the time. It low key kind of upsets me knowing how fucking great this is. Only because I wonder if this is how good it’s going to get. Or are we just breaking the crust on bringing this type of cinematic and opus like production/composition into neuro.

You have to begin or end with these tunes. Nothing in my archive of 10’s of 1000’s of dnb tunes released over the past 30 years I’ve been collecting can follow these tunes. This release is breath taking. It is gorgeous & haunting. It’s delicate and bone crushing. Sonically it’s perfect. Structurally, its engineering perfection. It’s one of those releases that I look forward to hearing everywhere, all the time. But selfishly, I wish I was the only one who had it, so I could break necks in my sets as a new aged dnb shaman.
