Conrad Subs – Rock N Rollerz EP5 – Dirtbox Recordings

Yo my D&B Family!  Strex here and I have an exciting release for you this week in the Rock N Rollerz series from Dirtbox Recordings.  This one is from the mighty Conrad Subs who is a legend in the scene.  This 5 track EP is definitely one to get your hands on even if just sold on the label and the artist alone.

Let’s get straight into the tunes!  First up is a tune called Fatboi.  A very simple intro to this one which builds the tension with a really minimalist sound.  When it drops though it’s a head nodder and you can really see where it gets its name from.  The bass is distorted and gritty and leads you through the simplified beat.  A wicked roller of a tune.

Next up we have Get Down which has a muted amen break to start us off which then leads to a vocal repeating the name of the track before dropping into a really tasty number.  Kind of reminds me of early 2000s D&B, a gnarly little beast of a tune this one, loving it!

Following Dust comes next, this is a beautiful roller that has a sinister vibe to it and a really cool vocal over the top which has old school flavours to it, this one is definitely a tune to listen to when driving late at night as the street lamps pass you by on an empty motorway.

Next on the agenda is Only Want which has a kind of trance type of euphoria about it in the build up and included in the vocal that hits you on the drop.  Really feeling this one, it’s got a classic D&B beat and bassline but keeps some of that euphoria washing over it.

Last but not least a track entitled Leaving Them Behind closes the ceremony.  With a beautiful piano harmony that carries you through the intro which then launches into a really groovy bassline, layered with a Think break.  That piano continues on through which compliments the rest of the tune perfectly.  Such a chilled tune, one to kick back, close your eyes and reflect to.  

So all in all the release is wonderfully varied with different styles but all meticulously crafted by a top notch producer.
