As we enter the final lap of the 2025 release season. Halftime & Tech dnb establishment, AGN7 AUDIO, cuts a dancefloor stomper. Pairing up with European producers Offish & Attempt. We are anointed by a 3 track EP that brings back the dark stepper vibes. With releases coming through the gauntlet in droves this year. Offish & Attempt have been hurling work at us via Armory , Inception Audio , Darkhorse & Offish Productions.

Much of the work from these artists lean into the lane of the dnb Lydias. Music for people who find themselves ” strange and unusual”. I would describe it as dark halftime. Bound and gagged with classic tech step influences and fused together with a funeral doom sensibility. Brandished with flawless production, mixing & mastering. Release after release. These two are edging us into dnb oblivion.

                      AND NOW WE HAVE “ROKIE”

Kicking off this EP is the title track “Rokie“. This one jumps you straight into a cinematic snake pit. Out the gate. The tempo, percussion & atmospherics holds tension throughout. Grabbing me the most is this “body bent finger snapping” funk. Almost as if there was a post punk approach that leans Gary Newman. But finishes like Kosheen. All I know is its a low key stepper with sauce.

Sliding in second is the tune “Namhaikh” . This gets your head bobbing immediately. Garnished with wobbles and synth patches from neurofunks past. Namhaikh sweeps you up onto your feet straight into the roller zone. Definitely pulling the listener back in time to where Digital, Universal Project and Loxy ran the floor. This one drives in the fast lane, and we’re pinning the fuck out of the transmission.

Closing this EP out is a more stripped down and chopped up remix of Namhaikh by dreadmaul. This remix doesn’t pull away from the vibe and timing of the original too much. It does pull back the lighter more approachable aspects of the original song tho. In doing that, it embraces the drumming and old school style of choppy tech step. Giving us another version of a great tune that leans into the obscure and sci-fi edge that made this style of dnb amazing.

                        HOW WE FEELING ABOUT THE JAMS?

Per usual, I’m very much into this. It’s a bit of a step away from the out fit we are used to seeing AGN7 wearing. I think it is funkier, more dancefloor friendly and definitely not as dystopian as you would expect. Which is great! As a fan of the label and the style. I think breaking away from expectations can be a dice roll. In this case I got SNAKE EYES!!

This record could be a great way to jump a friend who loves mainstream dnb or jump up. Into deep halftime and industrial inspired tech driven dnb. Sometimes the homies don’t know they are on a path to being a dark dude who will love to despise Dimension when they grow up. They came into the culture via Mr. Happy. This could be the album that teaches them there is a Mr. Sad. And I’m here for all of that shit.
