 DID DNB BANG HARDER IN 2025 THAN BONNIE BLUE?

FUCK YES IT DID!  I do not have any exact metrics of how dnb did from a fiscal standpoint. But it definitely broke the levies when it came to releases, label pop ups, festivals & ushering in the new era of producers. I can’t think of a single year in the past two decades. Where dnb was able to capture a global interest like it did in 2025. Did it happen because people from the Zoomer EDM movement began entering into a more mature era of party kid culture. Were they searching for something a bit more fulfilling and leveling up from Sudden Death and A Hundred Drums American festi-bro dubstep and riddim? Nah, that stuff is still super popular, more profitable than ever, and still sucks.

Were new heads brought in by the confusion within the “techno” scene. Is this shit trance? Is it techno? Will I look as good as these models up there pretending to dj in cheap athlesuire? Why is this music at cocaine tempo when we are all clearly on ket? Was the escape from the same thing that has been a trend in EDM over the past 5 years a driving factor in so many people running towards dnb? Did people coming into their first decade in the rave trenches want something “new” ?

I genuinely feel like the soundscape has became extremely pop influenced and metric driven. Mostly to reap the benefits of financial gain via replication of a profitable formula. Replicate, smile, post, subscribe, follow, repeat.  But the formula and quest for instantaneous fame .Allowed a very deep , and many times, dark and complex sub-genre to gain new followers by proxy. Whilst the promise of never attained success brought back ALOT of people who walked away decades ago.

The access to DAW’s , entry level djing gear, hyper edit freebies & an onslaught of really good music may have been the catalyst. Right now, anyone can be apart of dnb today. You don’t even have to be good at it, knowledgable of it, or have any experience with it. You can just be nice and present. Building your whole “career” on a social media platform before you cut on mix or sign one tune. You’re more likely to have a logo, a headshot, an AI written bio and an equipment rider. Before you are even a presence.

This year was proof of that. Literally 100’s of new labels popped up in all genres across the world. Thousands and thousands of new dj’s and producers bombarded twitch, soundcloud, YouTube & whatever IRL time slots were available.  Bandcamp and other platforms were able to let anyone bypass traditional methods of “climbing the ladder” and distribute their music. Which led to a plethora of good and bad dnb. More good than bad. The saturation of new fans brought us great music!

Which consequently, gave us a metric fuck ton of great tunes!!

There isn’t a single sub-genre of dnb that didn’t succeed . I take that back, ragga-jungle is still in the shitter. But literally every other genre had its moment. Brought back its family, and definitely got its flowers. Even break core and skull step seemed to pull the coffin lid off and scrape its bones back to the surface. In my opinion, no genre hit the ground running like neurofunk. From a financial aspect. Jump-up and big room dnb will always crush in ticket sales and Beatport metrics. But I would put a lot of money on the fact that neurofunk grew wider and faster globally. In every aspect, than any genre in dnb .

Traditional rollers and deep halftime was literally on fire! While liquid and amen heavy jungle rode the wave that artists like Degs, Nia Archives and Neeketone created last year. Rebuilding a renaissance with every gun finger waving camo clad fan. Hybrid dnb kept chopping at the culture as well. More and more producers leaned into experimenting with bringing 4×4 genres, old school acid & and Rotterdam gabber into their tunes. Which hit every dance floor , from every dj, annihilating every eardrum. And I was here FOR ALL OF IT!!!!

I attended ALOT of shows, streamed 100’s of hours, posted 30 mixtapes, and played every show thrown my way. One of the busiest years for myself in a really long time. There were 100’s and 100’s of purely magical tunes that hit my decks. But these 50 tunes got the most rotation from me. Rocked the speaker stacks the hardest. Broke at least 50 necks and added probably ten years to thousands of peoples foreheads and chins via BASS FACE!!! I saw many people I know and do not know hit high’s and goals never imagined. I watched homies go tour and play for crowds in areas of the planet they would have never been to without dnb. It was pretty fucking rad. And the tunes brought us all together!
